The first comment I received as I started my 2018 Slice of Life Challenge was “brief and to the point.” As I type this the ubiquitous evening thunderstorm is rolling in bringing a much needed respite from the heat and humidity and it gives me a chance to sit out on my porch and reflect. I agree. Sometimes less is more. There is lots of noise out there. Everyone wants a piece of your attention. Constantly pinging phones. Scary headline news. A constant stream of information overload and yet it seems like everyone is running just to stand still. And yet when you really dig deep it’s very simple. What are you thankful for today? This is what really matters and what you will remember when all the noise eventually settles down. That’s all the wisdom I have for today folks, take it or leave it.

“Everyone is running just to stand still.” Great line! And the notion that there are so many competitors for our attention. That resonates so much and perhaps that’s why we all feel so harried all the time? And yet gratitude, gratitude for what can be distilled as most important- excellent point. Thanks for sharing this slice!

“A constant stream of information overload and yet it seems like everyone is running just to stand still.” Isn’t that truth! Thanks for the reminder to stop and watch the storm.
As a side note, I see you are at ISKL. We a few teachers “slicing” from the international school in Ghana where you principal came from. Please give Julie a hug from Alex in Ghana.

Love this piece. Put simply…be grateful for today! Be thankful!…that’s what matters.

Alex! Alex, Alex, Alex… you have touched my heart with this piece. I couldn’t quite find the words to say…when I try to explain how I’m feeling to others. As an educator, student, friend, etc…there is always so much going on. Never a moment to slow down. Never a moment to simply reflect. I am thankful for your words.

Wow. I didn’t realize how powerful my words could be. I am so glad it really resonated with you and thank you for inspiring me to keep writing more and more and more.

I must tell you that when I read, “the ubiquitous evening thunderstorm is rolling in bringing a much needed respite from the heat and humidity,” I immediately went to your “About” page. 🙂 I’m pondering the contrast in your words — “sit out on my porch” and “running to stand still.” I think you chose the best.
